I'll be teaching an Introduction to Pastel class at the Arts Building in Gibsons on April 18/19. This is an opportunity to gain the tools and techniques to create naturalistic landscapes in soft pastel. We'll use the motif of clouds to apply the principles of concept, composition, contrast, colour, and clarity. See http://artsbuilding.org/introduction-to-pastels-april-18-19/ for more information and to register. Those who complete this class will have the foundation necessary to participate in ongoing studio lessons in the fall. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org to be placed on the class list.
I'll be taking the summer off teaching in order to concentrate on creating works for my solo show at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery (in October) and also for the fall Art Crawl. However, do call and/or drop by to stay in touch, and keep painting!
Last weekend (March 22), I did a demo at Opus Art Supplies in North Vancouver, thanks to Dave Denson who contacted me to request this event. A near-capacity audience watched and listened as I created a pastel landscape from a really unpromising photo. Once I got the piece home, I continued to work on it and changed the composition quite a bit--it really pays to be able to get further back and evaluate your work! Here's the finished piece:
