Book Launch Saturday August 24th 10:30 am Gibsons Public Market

Join me for an hour of exploration into a pivotal time in Canada’s history, when the demise of the bison and the coming of settlers and the Northwest Mounted Police upended the traditional life of the Blackfoot. My new book, In Plain Sight, will be officially launched (presentation and reading) in tandem with a collection of mixed media works related to its themes. Hope to see you there!

Book Sales at Trail Bay Mall

As part of the Art & Words Festival/Writers’ Fest, I and a handful of other local writers will be hawking our wares at the Trail Bay Mall in Sechelt from 10-530 this coming FRIDAY (AUG 16) AND SATURDAY (AUG 17TH). I’ll have copies of all of my books—including the new one, In Plain Sight—and will have show special pricing. Hope to see you there or at the official In Plain Sight book launch on SATURDAY AUGUST 24TH at 10:30 a.m. at the Gibsons Public Market (upstairs, Coastal Room)

Thanks for a great Crawl and GPAG show

Many thanks to the folks who came out to see my work throughout the Art Crawl! It was a lovely weekend and I very much enjoyed meeting and reconnecting with so many art and book lovers.

My new book, Between the Lines, arrived JUST in time for the Crawl and I hope those who purchased it will enjoy the read. It will soon be available at my usual outlets (Talewind Books in Sechelt BC; Earthfair in Madeira Park, BC, and on Amazon as a print-on-demand and ebook)—and, as always, from me! Email me at rodgers.ruth@gmail.com for more information. See details about the book under Works—Books above—scroll to the bottom of the page.

From Nov 2-26, I will be delighted to share the Eve Smart space within the Gibsons Public Art Gallery with three of my Landing Artists colleagues: Charmaine Bayntun, Ed Hill, and Coralie Swaney. Although our arts collective officially disbanded in September, we had an unexpected opportunity for one more show. The space is limited, so we’ll each be showing only a small selection of works. I’ll have a collection of watercolours for sale—perfect for Christmas gift giving @ $275 for a 12 x 12 framed work. Some of my books (those with covers by Charmaine) will be in the GPAG gift shop during the month as well.

Drop by and see!

Art of Healing 2023 tickets on sale September 1

Again this year I have a work in the Sechelt Hospital Foundation’s Art of Healing fundraising event. This event includes a display of 36 pieces of art by local artists over the Art Crawl weekend (Oct 20-22) at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Gardens. On Saturday (Oct 21), 36 Collector ticket holders and others will gather at the Gardens for a gala event that will culminate in a draw for one of the 36 pieces, plus a live auction of adventure packages and the draw for our grand prize raffle ticket holder for a trip for two to anywhere Air Canada flies in North America plus other travel benefits.

Here’s the piece I’ve donated—buy a Collector ticket ($600) and you may win the draw to have this on your wall! Event and raffle tickets can be purchased online only, at https://www.sechelthospitalfoundation.org/art-of-healing-event-ticket-details-2023/ and https://www.sechelthospitalfoundation.org/art-of-healing-exhibit-event-2023/

New book, new show

The Landing Artists’ Summer Show and Sale will be at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Gardens on Aug 5-7, 11-4 each day. Come by and browse work from eight artists and pick up my new book Always Your Peggy!

This story is a fictionalized history of my English mother’s WWII years—a departure from Canadian history but, I hope, just as enjoyable. I’ll also have lots of new paintings and cards on view—see you there!
